Gizem Tongo
Post-doctoral Fellow at the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA)
Dr Gizem Tongo completed her D.Phil. on Ottoman Painting and Painters during the First World War in 2018 (Supervisor: Dr. Laurent Mignon), and has been a member of the KRC since 2013, first as a doctoral student and later as a Barakat Postdoctoral Scholar. Currently she is a Post-doctoral Fellow at the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA), working on a book manuscript with the working title War, Art, and the End of the Ottoman Empire, and is helping to curate an upcoming exhibition at Salt Galata Istanbul, devoted to a Turkish woman artist: Mihri Hanım (1886-1954).
