Samir Shamma Internship at the History of Science Museum

The Khalili Research Centre is delighted to be able to sponsor a three-month internship at the History of Science Museum for one MSt, MPhil, or DPhil student in Islamic Art and Architecture, to be undertaken in the academic year 2025–26. This will provide an outstanding opportunity for one of our students to work on Islamic scientific instruments and acquire curatorial experience in a museum environment.

The successful student will be enrolled part-time for 20 hours a week at the History of Science Museum, for 12 consecutive weeks. The internship carries a stipend at grade 02S-6 on the official salary scales for University personnel. Depending on the availability of HSM staff, the intern may also be asked to create a new display based on the work carried out during the internship.
All MSt, MPhil, and DPhil students in Islamic Art and Architecture are encouraged to apply, especially if they are in the final stages of their degree. If on a student visa, however, they should first check if they are allowed to take up a paid internship, and under what conditions.

To apply, students should send a motivation letter describing their past and present experience with Islamic scientific instruments if any (max 1000 words), their CV, and a list of dates reflecting their availability to take up the internship between 01/02/2026 and 30/09/2026. These three documents should be submitted as one single PDF file to krc@ames.ox.ac.uk. The application deadline is Monday 19 January 2026, 12 noon.
